I rate books based on style, execution, characters, etc. -- even poorly-rated ones have parts that changed my life.

Many Goodreads "reviews" are written with the intention of being witty or humorous rather than informative. For example, a top review of Infinite Jest describes how the user read it on vacation rather than relaxing with her boyfriend; one for Faust is a poem about why Faust is bad. It's quite ridiculous. Moreover, if you mention disliking a book, people will imply you're severely mentally impaired, and my life is distressing enough as it is. There are other reasons -- my dislike for large corporations, etc.
I like what Reading Project is doing. Their reviews are insightfully written. However, without book reviews, I wouldn't have much to add to my site; also, I like decorating reviews' pages.
